About Hotel Orto de' Medici
In the centre of the historic City of Florence, Hotel Orto de' Medici occupies a palace in a quiet street, full of original frescoes and antique furniture.
Rooms are either classically-styled or more contemporary in their decoration and some have views over the rooftops and Cathedral Dome. All include minibar, air conditioning, satellite TV, safe and en-suite bathrooms.
The hotel's garden, once home to Lorenzo il Magnifico's art school, is a quiet spot full of white roses and a cinammon tree. Free Wi-Fi is available and there are numerous guest sitting rooms.
Guests can opt to enjoy a breakfast of croissants, fresh orange juice and cold cuts, among other items, on Hotel Orto de' Medici's terrace or in the dining area and there are several excellent restaurants less than a 10-minute walk away.
The Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio and the Academy of Fine Arts are nearby, as is Florence Cathedral.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Palace setting in historical Florence.
Orto de Medici is set in a stunning palace on a quiet street close to the historical centre of Florence. Classical rooms reflect the exterior of the building and there are numerous sitting rooms for guests to relax in after a busy day exploring the City. The train station is close by and the buses from San Marco Square, so nothing is far away.
positive:
Breakfast on the terrace.
Breakfast is continental and, in Summer, is served on the terrace overlooking the garden and City. Orange juice is fresh, coffee is excellent and there is plenty of choice.
positive:
Exceptional service.
Many feel the hotels best feature are its staff; always helpful, smiling and eager to pass on their extensive knowledge of Florence. Ice lollies await you after a long, hot day and there are welcome drinks on arrival. They also speak perfect English (along with a whole host of other languages).
Negative Reviews
negative:
More dated than antique.
Some love the classical décor but others feel rooms are more dated than antique. There is, apparently, a refurbishment programme ongoing, but some rooms and still in need of modernisation. They are, however, spacious and clean.
negative:
Lacking a few extras.
While hotel rooms are generally well-equipped, you may find a few items lacking. Rooms do not have tea and coffee making facilities, which some guests like to have, higher quality toiletries could be supplied and rooms occasionally lack a sufficient number of towels.
negative:
Wi-Fi could be improved.
The Wi-Fi works intermittently in rooms. While frustrating for some, you may be content to use the internet access in the lobby where access is more reliable.
