Spectacular natural setting
There is no question that it was the resort's location in the rain forest that most impressed guests. They had, after all, come to Costa Rica to experience the tropics, and what better place than actually in the forest.
Situated among virgin rain forest close to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, Hotel La Palapa Eco Lodge Resort is a boutique property offering eco-conscious accommodation to guests looking to experience the country’s best fauna and flora. Both regular rooms and bungalows are available. All have cool tile flooring, en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans and are decorated in warm, vibrant colors. The bungalows are a bit more private and also feature fully equipped kitchens and private terraces. While the majority of the land is left in its natural state, there are also lovely gardens around the buildings themselves. The Pura Vida Bar-Restaurant serves all three meals in a charming setting under a grand thatch roof. The cuisine is a blend of Costa Rican and Mediterranean influences, but, as expected, the coffee is all Costa Rican. While the resort’s grounds are popular, especially among the hikers and cyclists, Playa Linda Beach is just five minute away.

Some did complain that there was no food or drink for sale, or allowed, around the pool, but said that the pool itself was very beautiful, and the area around it the perfect place to relax and absorb the tropical atmosphere.
While there were a few contrary opinions, the vast majority of guests seemed to like the food that came out of La Palapa's kitchen. The owner was said to be Portuguese, and the food offered at the restaurant has a strong Portuguese influence. While some felt it was expensive, the majority thought it was exceptionally good.
While most guests did love the remote location, since it meant they could be in the heart of a rain forest, some pointed out that the downside was that they really needed a car in order to get anywhere. Aside from the natural world, there was little of interest within reasonable walking distance, making a car a necessity to many.
This was a very common complaint. The hotel has a strict rule of no outside food or drink being allowed in, but guests mentioned that even basic extras like bottled water were extremely expensive to buy on-site. They felt like they were being taken advantage of.
A number of guests pointed out that the rooms have no air conditioning. While there are ceiling fans, given the tropical heat and humidity these were regarded as almost useless.
