Guests appreciated being away from the hustle and bustle and used the hotel a base to explore some of the nearby historical monuments most notably Hadrian's Wall which is a short distance away.
The hotel has croquet and bowling equipment as well as pool table for guests to enjoy during their leisure time. Many chose to spend their time sitting out on the patio or exploring the expansive grounds. The hotel also organises bingo evenings and live music in the bar which proved popular with many.
Guests were pleased to find that their rooms were of generous size with plenty of space to stow away their belongings. The overall hygiene levels were said to be quite high as guests reported that their rooms were kept clean and tidy for the duration of their stay.
The decor of the rooms was said to be rather dated as guests objected to marks on the walls, tatty-looking upholstery and carpets .The bathrooms were also described as being in need of modernisation with dated suites and basic fixtures and fittings.
