A rare budget option just steps from the seafront, the Hostal Tierramar Hostel offers weary travellers friendly and welcoming accommodation near Palma. There are both standard and superior rooms at Hostal Tierramar. The budget rooms are just that - comfortable, but with basic facilities, and shared bathrooms. The Superior rooms are also simply furnished, but include air conditioning and private bathrooms. Most rooms have private balconies. The social centre of the hostel is the bar-lounge, where guests can enjoy socialising over drinks and a game of pool. Internet access is also available. A basic breakfast is available, and the bar sells a few basic snacks, but for proper meals there are a number of dining options in the surrounding area. Hostel staff will be happy to share their recommendations. The acclaimed Palma Aquarium, specialising in Mediterranean marine habitats, is just three miles from the hostel. Palma Airport is just 3.5 miles.
The proximity to the sea was by far what most impressed guests about the hostel. It seems many were actually surprised that they found a budget option that was also close to the sea. Also mentioned is that all the shops, cafes, bars and such that a guest could want were located in the surrounding streets.
A number of guests mentioned the airport bus. Of course guests staying at a budget hostel are travelling on a budget, so the convenience of getting so close to their accommodation by means of a relatively cheap bus was not lost on them.
Surprisingly, despite the breakfast being described as “basic”, a very large number of guests went out of their way to comment on how delicious it was. It seemed that they were perhaps not expecting breakfast to be included at all, and were very grateful that it was.
While it is hardly advertised otherwise, guests who opted for the standard rooms, without air conditioning, in summer tended to rue their decision. When the heat took hold, especially at night, they certainly did miss the air conditioning.
Arenal seems to be a popular party spot, and the streets around the hostel tended to get quite loud as the night progressed. It is definitely not a quiet location, and would best suit those joining the party.
While Wi-Fi worked in the bar area, the signal was not strong enough to reach the rooms. Guests may need to activate roaming if they need constant connectivity.
