Positive Reviews
positive:
Excellent on-site restaurant
Guests seem to hold the skills of he chefs at Auld Alliance, the hotel's restaurant, in very high regard. The meals served there were said to be both tasty and unique. It was near impossible to find guest who disliked the food. One even remarked that she had Haggis for breakfast though, thankfully perhaps, this was not required.
positive:
Friendly and chatty staff
Again and again guests mentioned how friendly the staff at Glenbank were. They seemed genuinely interested in guest's plans, and would be more than willing to help with local information if asked.
positive:
Good location close to town
Though all meals were available at the hotel, guests appreciated being so close to Jedburgh that they could just take a quick stroll through its streets. Also mentioned was the proximity to the reputedly haunted Jedburgh Castle and Prison.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Some rooms are a little small
This was a fairly common complaint. Though it seems not all rooms at Glenbank are small, a fair number of them seem to be, and guests allocated to them tended to feel at least a little unhappy.
negative:
Lounge bar a bit of a disappointment
Guests didn't seem to like the décor and atmosphere of the lounge bar. The décor was said to be very spartan, and this in turn led to a lack of any real atmosphere one would typically have in a bar.
negative:
Breakfast times
Though not mentioned often, it was pointed out that the breakfast service stoped a bit too early for some, leaving late risers high, dry and very hungry. Guests who think they may miss breakfast should discuss their options with the owners the day before.
