The Dusthole, also called The Kings Arms, is a late 15th-century inn offering simple accommodations. It is located at a five-minute walk from the center of Shepton Mallet. There are 15 warmly furnished rooms featuring TVs and DVD players and en suite bathrooms. Some rooms have chic-woodsy cabins and 400-year old stone floors. The Dusthole has a beautiful garden and a patio area. There’s also a warm fireplace in the common area. Other amenities include free Wi-Fi in public areas and complimentary on-site parking. There is a restaurant serving an array of dishes from International variants to Eastern specialities. There is also a Sunday carvery for the guests and there are many restaurants as well in the area nearby. Longleat Safari Park is a 25-minute drive from the inn and major tourist attractions like the Royal Bath and West Showground are also nearby.
Guests liked the ambience at the inn. They loved the old-world charm of the building and the warm and cosy log fire. They said that it was perfect for a romantic getaway or even to just enjoy a refreshing drink by the garden or log fire area.
The inn is located just off the A37, thus it's very well connected for the motorway. All other modes of transport are also easily accessible. Moreover, the Shepton Mallet centre is just a five-minute walk, making it close by from many restaurants, pubs and shopping areas. Major tourist attractions are also nearby.
The hosts of the inn were nice and friendly. They had a welcoming attitude towards the guests and extended great standards of hospitality. Even the staff was very helpful and cordial, and always assisted the guests with a cheerful smile. Moreover, they gave valuable information about the local area and things to do around.
Many areas in the inn had a tired look and don't give a good impression about the property. The bathrooms are in dire need of repair work, since the shower pole and towel rail isn't even attached to the walls. Some guests said that there was leakage in the bathrooms.
Rooms were dirty and unclean. Guests said that there were cobwebs and dust in the cabins. Many furniture and fittings in the room were broken, there were stains on the carpets and even the towels provided were shabby.
Guests said that the food served at the inn was a total disappointment. There was nothing right about the food. Either it was cold, overcooked, served in a not presentable way, had less variety or some other issue. Furthermore, the food was overpriced.
